Overview

This second Cycle of Studies in Communication Skills Clinic encompasses training and applied research in the field of Clinical Communication and Clinical relationship with the patient in three stages: basic, advanced and specialized. It includes, among others, (1) the skills necessary for an interview, (2) emotions management, (3) dealing with the bad news, (4) motivational interviewing, (5) the relationship with the patient unable to speak, anxious or depressed, (6) and family interview (7) adjustment to patients’ age phases: childhood, adolescence and old age. Patient centered interview - strategies and basic skills, attending behavior, providing structure, gathering information, relationship building strategies, emotion-handling skills, physical examination techniques and planning and shared decision making are included in the curriculum. Training is based in experiential techniques that provide a safe opportunity to acquire communication strategies. Standardized role-play exercises using clinical vignettes are use to train and assess students that either perform as patients or clinicians. Teacher and peers feedback, and videotaped simulated clinical situations are used to establish experience and reflection on communication abilities.

Elegibility
Degree or Integrated Master in Medicine, Nursing, Clinical Psychology, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition and other health areas.
Language: Portuguese
Accreditation: 120 ECTS
Fee:

Ordinary students: 1250€/yr (full time) or 937,5€/yr (partial time); International students: 4500€/yr (full time) or 3375€/yr (partial time); International students (CPLP): 2250 €/yr (full time) or 1687,5 €/yr (partial time).
